TWO women have been found guilty of benefit theft of more than £6,000 between them.
Nicola Fryer, aged 28, of Hawthorn Grove, Paddington, and Angela Edwards, aged 45, of Dale Lane, Appleton, appeared at Warrington Magistrates Court and pleaded guilty to being overpaid in benefits.
Fryer failed to tell the council that her partner was living with her and that he was working full time.
She claimed £3,617.84 in housing and council tax benefit and has been ordered to repay the amount.
She was sentenced to a 12 month community order to undertake 100 unpaid hours work and to pay £100 in costs.
Edwards failed to tell the council that a lodger had moved out from her property.
She claimed £2,795.96 in housing benefits and has been ordered to repay the amount.
She was sentenced to a 12 month community order to undertake 80 unpaid hours work and to pay £50 in costs.
Adrian Webster, benefits manager at the council, said: “All benefit theft is crime. There are no exceptions and that is why the council is determined to bring fraudsters to justice.”
