THE new town centre youth cafe will be officially unveiled in Time Square tomorrow, Friday.

It will provide a base for teenagers to hang out, while they can also use information services.

Ryan Barnes, youth parliament member for Warrington North, said the cafe is a result of four years of campaigning from youngsters.

He said: “It is a good project because it has come from the heart of young people.

“They have been involved from start to finish which means it’s going to be a success.

“We have been pushing very hard for this.”

The cafe will be run by students from Warrington Collegiate. It opens to the public from noon on Saturday.

Warrington Wolves players will be there, with activities such as Zumba on offer.

Ryan said the cafe will provide an alternative option for teenagers who feel unwelcome in conventional cafes.

“Young people in Warrington have always been after somewhere they can relax, sit down out of the cold and get a cup of coffee,” he said.

“People who go to Starbucks pay a lot of money and get dirty looks off old people who think they shouldn’t be there.”

And the young politician believes the new facility will help stop youngsters from being accused of loitering on the streets.

“I really think it will help get away from the stigma of youths hanging around.

“This is about taking the initiative and not waiting for things to happen. Adults will see that the effort that has been put into it.”

Clr Terry O’Neil, leader of Warrington Borough Council, will be given a tour of the cafe on Friday.

He said: “I would like to thank all the partners involved in making this a reality and in particular the young people who have worked so hard on this.

“I’m sure they will make it a great success.’ For more information call the cafe on 442874, find it on Facebook or go to warrington.gov.uk/youthcafe.
