POLICE are looking to find out how a Lymm woman, whose body was found in the Bridgewater Canal, died.

Shortly before 11.20am last Friday, September 30, police were called to the canal near to Trafford Road, following reports of a body in the water.

Officers attended and discovered the body of a woman, 39-year-old Catherine Sharman, from Lymm.

Catherine was cycling into Manchester from home. Her bike was also found in the water.

Officers do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding her death, but would like to hear from anyone who may have seen her beforehand.

Catherine's husband Jamie said: "Cath was a happy outgoing person with a real zest for life.

"She enjoyed lots of outdoor activities like cycling and walking and she loved circuit training and fitness boot camps.

"Cath made everybody laugh and brought happiness to many people.

"She was very loved and will be greatly missed by everyone that knew her."

DI Frank Morris said: "We do not believe that Catherine's death was down to anything other than a tragic accident.

"We would however appeal to anyone who may have come across her on the canal path.

"You may remember having to stand to one side to allow a cyclist to go past you.

"Catherine's family is obviously distraught and just wants to know what happened to her.

"It is our job to assist the coroner in helping them to gain some understanding about the full circumstances."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 9169.
