WESTBROOK councillor David Earl and his wife Sandra are urging people to go green after they had solar panels installed on the roof of their home David and Sandra, aged 65 and 42, of Newbridge Close, Callands, were looking into energy issues online last October when they came across the Rent-a-Roof scheme.

If a property is suitable it can have the panels, which usually cost around £14,000, installed for free on the roof slope.

A contract is then entered into with the power company to retain them for a fixed term.

In return the company receives a feed-in tariff from the Government and the homeowner benefits from the electricity generated, reducing energy bills by £150 to £200 per year depending on usage.
