SHE may have said goodbye to her 20-year career as a teaching assistant but there will always be a special place in Joan Jenkins' heart for Brook Acre Primary School.

Joan, aged 60, from Paddington, retired from Brook Acre last week with a touching send off from colleagues, pupils and parents.

Now a lady of leisure, Joan plans on spending more time with her mum and dad, who live in Culcheth, and her two sons and seven grandchildren.

When she's not kept busy with her family ties she plans on plenty of retail therapy, holidays and gardening.

Joan, who began her career as a teaching assistant at Newchurch Special School 10 years before joining Brook Acre, said: "Brook Acre will always have a very special place in my heart I have a lot of happy memories of my time there. I will miss the children and I have a lot of dear friends there who I will keep in touch with. I'm looking forward to my retirement and hope to put to good use the barbecue and vouchers I was presented with at my farewell assembly."
