FIREFIGHTERS are urging Warrington motorists to take extra car on the town's roads as the number of accidents mounts up.

In the latest incident just before 5.30am on Wednesday fire crews were called to a road accident on Hawleys Lane. When they arrived they found four passengers had managed to release themselves from the car.

Two men and a woman received minor injuries while another woman suffered serious head injuries.

Firefighter Jason Fletcher said: "We have been actively promoting road safety for some time now, but unfortunately the message doesn't seem to be getting through.

"We are attending more and more serious road traffic collisions, many of which could be avoided.

"Don't become one of the many people whose lives we battle to save at a serious road traffic collision."
