A RARE early November snowstorm in 1910 heralded the birth of Doris Turner.

And on Monday, the Padgate resident celebrated her 100th birthday, without a snowflake in sight.

Doris was born in Hatton and moved to Padgate were she attended St James’ and Fairfield Schools.

She married Thomas in 1935 and the pair moved into their home on Lawn Avenue, Padgate, where she still lives.

But soon after marriage they were separated as Thomas went to serve in the Army in north Africa and Italy during the Second World War.

After he returned they had a daughter, Glenys, and Doris would regularly support her husband when he played the trumpet for Warrington Silver Band.

Thomas died in April this year aged 98, just months before the pair were set to celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary in June.

Doris spent her birthday with her friends and family, including granddaughters Susan and Alison.
