SCHOOL'S out and not just for the summer as one Penketh teacher has retired after 33 years at the same school.
Teachers and pupils at Penketh High School waved goodbye to long-serving maths teacher Dave Humphrys last Thursday, whose first day on the job was in September 1973, after completing teacher training at Chester College.
Mr Humphrys, who also used to teach PE, has taught several generations over the past 33 years and he has even found himself teaching children and sometimes grandchildren of former pupils.
Barry Fishwick, head teacher, said: "He is a cracking bloke and will leave a real legacy for the school.
"He has had a massive impact on the quality of teaching and learning in the school he has been the architect of a huge plan of improving standards.
"One of the kids came to sign his card the other day and said We are really going to miss Mr Humphrys'. I think he spoke for all of us."
Although he has retired from teaching, Mr Humphrys will continue to carry out training sessions and lesson observations as an education consultant at the Heath Road school.
But on the days that he's not back in the classroom, he is looking forward to playing golf and brushing up on his cookery skills.
