FORMER bus driver Les Hoyle has been appointed the new chairman of Warrington Borough Transport.

He takes over at a key moment with the impending opening of the new bus station.

Clr Hoyle, who has been a councillor for 20 years and is also a magistrate, had a brief spell working as a driver in the 1960s.

He said: "I am proud to take on the role at this very important time. Public transport has a major role to play in tackling traffic congestion "The company has made huge strides forward in recent years, with major investment in the bus fleet, the introduction of passenger information system, and Investor in People status."

Nigel Featham, managing director, said: "Les brings with him a vast amount of wide-ranging experience and skill "The board of directors would also like to thank our former chairman Eddie Coop for his tremendous work and a very productive term of office."

Clrs Maureen Banner, Bernard Long and Roger Rankin have been appointed to the board to replace Clrs Anne Haddow, and Rev Steve Parish, who have completed their terms.
