LIBERAL Democrat councillor Jo Crotty has resigned.
The councillor, who represents Bewsey and Whitecross, lost the Warrington South seat in the General Election in May.
But she told residents of Bewsey earlier this year she was 'too busy' to now attend meetings after being promoted to a job at Salford University.
A by election will take place in December.
It will be a crucial vote with the Lib Dem/Conservative alliance at Warrington Town Hall having a two seat majority.
It is understood Clr Crotty resigned yesterday, she again failed to attend Monday's meeting of the full council when the ruling group were close to losing crucial votes.
Parties have until next Friday to decide who their candidate for the by-election will be.
Labour party bosses are bullish that they can win the seat.
