CHESHIRE Dogs’ Home has asked people to take good care of their pets on Bonfire Night.
This is because the Grappenhall home sees an increase in stray dogs on and around November 5 each year, many of whom have run away from their owners in a panic.
Home manager Anna Widdowson said: “A lot of people seem to think that as the season only lasts a short time, it’s not worth trying to remedy the situation properly. But firework anxiety can be extremely stressful for dogs, and we would urge all owners to take appropriate steps to ensure their dog’s welfare.”
General tips include making sure dogs get plenty of exercise in the daytime so they can sleep through the noise more easily that night, not letting them off the lead and ensuring homes are secure so theys can not escape.
