A 57-YEAR-OLD suffered a serious hand injury after being viciously attacked in his own home.

The man, who lives on Broadbent Avenue, Latchford, was attacked after answering a knock on his door.

He allowed the man at the door inside his home in the early hours of Sunday and spoke to him.

But the victim was seriously assaulted by the man after refusing his demands for cash.

He was forcibly restrained by the suspect and was left injured for several hours before receiving help.

The offender stole a mobile phone and left the house after the assault took place.

The victim is in Warrington Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.

DC Christine Maffit, who is investigating the incident, said: “This was a particularly vicious attack and we are certain that there are members of the local community who may know who is responsible. We would urge those individuals to come forward and speak to police.”

A 43-year-old man, from Warrington, has been arrested in connection with the incident. He has been bailed until January.
