A GRAPPENHALL granddad has undergone revolutionary surgery after suffering sharp pains in his left knee.
Sixty-three-year-old John Ashby, who enjoys walking with his two grandchildren, started to feel joint discomfort last September and soon found it difficult to put weith through his left leg.
He went to see his GP and was referred to Stretton’s Spire Cheshire Hospital where he was x-rayed and told he had severe arthritis in his knee joint.
John, who lives on Middlehurst Road, and is married to Jan, was recommended for knee replacement surgery and informed of a new treatment that could help him regain his mobility and improve the positioning of his knee implant compared to traditional surgery.
The Signature Knee procedure involves an MRI scan of the hip, knee and ankle that provides surgeons with detailed images.
The operation, which can be performed under local anaesthetic, takes less than an hour and is less invasive than traditional surgery with an estimated recovery time of four weeks.
John, who works as a solicitor in Stockton Heath, said: “While I was slightly apprehensive at first about the treatment Spire Cheshire has given me hope that I will be able to enjoy my walks and my grandchildren’s company, without pain and fear of further incapacity.”
