THE CONSTRUCTION of a new £4 million 'super' health centre for thousands of people in Shavington and Wistaston got underway this week.

The development off Rope Lane, near to Shavington High School, includes provisions for a new medical centre, new and expanded Primary Care Trust services, a larger on-site pharmacy and 80 parking spaces.

The new centre is being built for the Brooklands Medical Practice to replace the existing surgeries at Wells Green and Shavington, which will continue to operate during construction.

Dr Sanj Shridhar, practice partner, said: "We will be able to offer patients new and improved primary care services from the new centre and are particularly keen to work closer with Shavington High School and staff from the Primary Care Trust to expand services for the residents in the locality."

The work is being done by Sapphire Primary Care Developments in partnership with Central Cheshire Primary Care Trust and the new centre is due to open in summer 2007.

Steve Jeffers, Sapphire's head of primary care, said: "We have worked for over four years to plan this development, which will be twice the size of the existing surgeries combined."
