COUNCIL bosses have confirmed that improvement works on Loushers Lane will be carried out, after Warrington Guardian readers voted it the worst stretch of road in the town.

Councillor Brian Axcell, Warrington Borough Council executive member for environmental services, confirmed that the council would be resurfacing the road at last week's full council meeting.

Earlier this year, readers voted the Latchford road as the street they love to hate after it polled as many votes as its two nearest rivals put together.

Motorists complained about the pitted, uneven and worn surface and many were calling for a new road surface to be laid as soon as possible.

Former Mayor and ward member Hans Mundry, was one of those behind the two-year campaign for change.

The plans to resurface the road were revealed after Cllr Mundry asked the council meeting what highways improvements were planned for the Latchford ward during this financial year.

He said: "Along with residents, I have campaigned for a number of years for this stretch of road to be resurfaced.

"I am pleased for local residents who have had to put up with a sub-standard road for too long.

"I have received an assurance that the improvement will go ahead during the current financial year and I will be watching closely to ensure this happens."

During the meeting Cllr Axcell announced plans for other road improvements, which the council is considering, including a scheme for Latchford swing bridge.

Other areas under review include the A5061, Kingsway South and Thelwall Lane as well as proposed improvements to junctions in Latchford.
