A colourful flower arrangement, provided by Mary Robinson, brightened the president's table at our February meeting. Members were saddened to learn of the death of Mrs Muriel Ready and our thoughts are with her family.

Two new members were welcomed. Name badges have been provided for everyone and should be helpful, especially for newer members.

Pauline Wiseman showed the results of the short stay at Denman College by displaying an impressive collection of watercolour paintings.

A new magazine will be available next year, as part of our WI subscription and Nina Grant explained how this would be funded. Nina was then congratulated on receiving her recent NFWI craft certificate in metalwork, having achieved a distinction.

A vote was taken, concerning the suggested closure of WI House for about seven days each year. Most members agreed this was acceptable.

Our speaker was Kevin Bargen who proved to be very popular. He played a variety of instruments, including a banjo, guitar, mandolin, accordion and a harmonica, setting our feet tapping and providing many amusing anecdotes about life with his group 'The Travelling People'. May Kelsey summed him up by saying that he was a one-man band, with a silver tongue. It was a truly fun evening.

Future events include the annual council meeting at Winsford on Tuesday, March 7, when the speaker will be Martin Henfield, followed by the group meeting on Monday, March 27 at Burtonwood. The speaker, Isobel Hammond will present What a Life. A coach will leave the usual pick up points at 6.15pm. A card-making evening will be on Tuesday, March 14 in the lounge.

Competition winners for a musical event programme were May Kelsey, Phyllis Frazer and Nancy Spencer.

The lucky numbers winner was Glenys Woodall.

Next meeting will be at Meeting Lane Leisure Centre on Monday, March 6 at 7.15pm. The theme will be Tatton Park, The Egerton Family" by Mrs Rosalie Gorton. Visitors welcom. Call 723541.
