COLIN Flood will be minding the nets for Warrington Town when they face Frickley Athletic in a tough FA Trophy tie at Cantilever Park on Saturday, kick-off 3pm.

Flood, who left Cantilever Park for Cammell Laird in the close-season, has been brought back by manager Glenn Walker as a replacement for departing goalkeeper Ian Lowe.

Ex-Southport keeper Lowe is taking 12 months out of life in this country to join up with a friend in Australia.

Michael Owen may also pull on a yellow shirt on Saturday.

The former Congleton, Nantwich and Stone centre half was due to have talks with Town last night, Wednesday, and he could be an ideal replacement for Gary Randles, who is recovering from an operation after rupturing his Achilles' tendon.

Frickley will provide a stern test in the Trophy's first qualifying round as they are currently in second place in the UniBond Premier Division - one level above Town, whose game at Colwyn Bay on Tuesday was postponed 45 minutes before kick-off due to a waterlogged pitch.

Town came within centimetres of their first ever win against Brigg Town on Saturday.

Two minutes into stoppage time, with the score lying 1-1, substitute striker Graeme Mitchell headed Steve Latham's short and lobbed pass on to the crossbar.

Referee Alan Pownall immediately blew the final whistle and he must have been relieved to get through the game without receiving a call to say that his expectant wife had gone into labour.

Brigg, who only arrived from Lincolnshire half an hour before kick-off due to traffic congestion, also hit the crossbar as they attempted to win the Cantilever Park clash after a 40-yard strike by Ross Thompson nearly embarrassed goalkeeper Lowe.

Town's point - their seventh in five games - was earned thanks to a 12-yard low and hard strike from Phil Mitchell in the 68th minute after a nod down from Paul McNally.

Brigg had taken the lead in the 44th minute after Stuart Ainsley's pass across the box gave Simon Roach an empty net to aim at from five yards.
