THE lovely Lakeland village of Hawkshead was the destination for members on October 2.
The A party, led by Keith Bridle, started at Pull Wyke, crossed fields to Skelwith Ford and then joined the Cumbria way to Skelworth Bridge and then on to High Park and Greenburn Beck at Birk Fell.
After ascending Birk Fell, the return to Hawkshead was via Coniston, Low Yewdale, Broom Farm, Hill Fell Plantation and Hawkshead Hill for a total of 13.5 miles.
Andre Tute led the B party from Ambleside to Rothay Bridge, Brow Head Farm, Lily Tarn, Ivy Grag, and Colwith Forge waterfalls. Stang End, Hodge Close, Oxen Fell, Low Arnside, Esthwaite Lodge and then to the finish in Hawkshead, for a distance of 13 miles.
Hawkshead was the starting point for the C party, led by Ken Cork, who made for Hawkshead Hill before coming to the beautiful Tarn Hows where the banks of the Tarn were followed to join the Cumbria Way from there it was to Hawks Head Hall and to the finish for a distance of nine-and-a-half miles.
Sandra Hart also led the D party from Hawkshead where their walk took them to Hawkshead Hill, Yew Kel, Rose Castle, Hawkshead Hall and then along Black Beck to the finish for a total of seven miles.
