GRANGE Safeway's unbeaten record in the Warrington Soccer League was given a severe first-half test this week at Halton Borough Reserves.

The Division Three leaders fell 2-0 behind and were indebted to goals by Stuart Waterworth and Phil Wilson to level matters before half time.

After the interval Grange completed their comeback with goals by James Hayes, Paul Barnett, Chris Kirby and Lee McDermott, making the final score 7-2.

Fife took the lead with six minutes left and doubled their advantage with a disputed penalty that was calmly converted by Wayne Jones. The game was a great advert for the league with two youthful sides showing great quality.

United were seldom troubled by visitors Beeches and won 4-1 at their new 'home' at Hood Lane.

There was a tremendous tussle at Sidac Social in Grange Valley Division One.

The hosts recovered from a 5-2 deficit at the hour mark against Vicars to win 6-5.

The game started in spectacular fashion when Sidac's goalkeeper scored after 90 seconds with a length-of-the-field punted clearance.

Vics hit back with goals from Mark Williams and Steve Edwards to lead 2-1 at the interval, with Edwards completing his hat-trick and Kevin Liston adding another by the 60th-minute mark. The hosts chipped away at the lead and ended the game in charge.

Matthiola earned maximum points for the first time this season with an excellent display in a 3-1 win at Runcorn Albion.
