CROSFIELDS gained a great confidence booster for Saturday's clash with the league leaders by thrashing Cumbrians Egremont at Hood Lane.

Soap go to Widnes St Maries on Saturday, kick-off 2.30pm, after a fine team performance maintained their third-place position in amateur rugby league's National Conference Division Two.

James Williams was the hero of the demolition job on Egremont as he was at the heart of most of the tries.

Crosfields went ahead with a David Bowden try within the first five minutes but the floodgates did not open until the 25th minute.

Five tries were added before half time, two of them coming from Chris Newall while Mark Moran, John Bannon and Richard Hough also touched down. With Williams converting four of the tries Soap were ahead 32-0.

Crosfields started the second half like they finished the first, with Hough scoring his second try.

Matthew Pitt, Chris Buckley and Williams added their names to the list of try scorers before Egremont opened their account. Buckley and Lee Irving had the last word for Crosfields.

A POWERFUL pack performance led by Crosfields' hat-trick hero Mathew Barber brought an end to Folly Lane's unbeaten start to the season.
