Top throwing in darts league

BULLS Head defeated GYCA 5-4 in the Grappenhall Darts League thanks to good performances from R Brotherston and P Oxley.

They won in 17 and 18 darts respectively, while GYCA's S Bebbington won in 15, E Jones triumphed in 16 and E Llewellyn secured victory in 17.

The league's monthly meeting will be held at GYCA on October 5 at 8pm. Entries for the Eustance Cup five-a-a-side competition are to be handed in at the meeting.

Bulls march on

TETLEY'S Lancashire Cup holders Bank Quay Bulls progressed to the third round of the amateur rugby league competition with a 78-10 defeat of Haresfinch.

Paul Cragg bagged five tries while Dean Braddish finished the game with nine goals and a personal tally of 22 points.

The Bulls will host Pilkingtons in the next round on October 8.

Double silver

CHESHIRE Martial Arts karate student Rebecca Evans won two silver medals at the Children's English Championships in Sheffield on Saturday.

The nine-year-old took second place in both kata (patterned movements) and kumite (fighting) in her first event at national level.

Just champion

APPLETON Thorn racing driver Martin Richardson has won the MG Car Club Championship for the first time in his 29-year career.

Richardson went into the final round of the championship on Sunday on equal points with rival Mike Peters and needing a top-two finish to secure the title.

The 51-year-old pulled out a four-second winning margin.

Water success

WARRINGTON'S senior water polo team retained the Liverpool Trophy after winning all of their three games at the weekend.

Five out of Warrington's seven-man squad came from the youth ranks and they scored nine of the team's 12 goals, with Rafik Tahraoui scoring four and Rabah Tahraoui striking three times.

Warrington beat Port Sunlight 3-0, Wallasey 5-3 and Southport 4-1.

Short mat bowls
