On Saturday, Knutsford RUFC played hosts to Trafford Metro Vicks in what proved to be a thrilling league encounter.

Knutsford eventually secured a 30-22 victory that thrusts them up to fourth place in the table, only three points adrift of the league leaders and next week's opponents, Broughton Park.

Victory did not come easily and was the result of the passion, dedication and commitment that the Mereheath Lane faithful have come to expect from this rugby club.

"That was a very poor first half performance and it was only the team spirit that pulled them through in the end," said John Filburn.

Early on, Knutsford set about the task by moving the ball wide to their fast and skilful backs, a tactic that has proven so successful during the early season. However, the Trafford backs were ferocious in the tackle and Knutsford conceded too much turnover ball.

Tries from the immensely talented man of the match Southgate and Steve Wilkinson kept Knutsford in the hunt, but at the interval they were 22-10 down and staring defeat in the face.

However, this team does not know when it is beaten and some subtle changes in tactics and the introduction from the bench of influential forwards such as Crawford, Bowen and Barnes-Batty saw Knutsford turn the tide. As the half went on, the pack became totally dominant and set up four tries, all of which were scored by the front row of Waring, Walton and the modest Owen.

When the final whistle went the ecstasy amongst the players was plain for all to see.

"The boys were incredible out there this afternoon, this club is moving from strength to strength and we relish a good challenge," said coach Daley.

"I just can't wait to get back in the squad."

Knutsford travel to Broughton Park next Saturday for a match that kicks off is at 3pm.
