STAFF at a cash strapped Middlewich nursery have slammed mindless vandals who targeted a toy shed.

In the past two weeks Little Angels Pre School, in Booth Lane, has been targeted by vandals who have damaged the wooden storage shed where the children's toys are kept, smashing the window on two separate occasions.

Both times nursery supervisor Evelyn Currie, 36, has discovered the damage and says she cannot understand the reasons behind the attacks because nothing has been stolen.

She said: "It's just absolutely pointless, mindless vandalism. The first time it happened was about two weeks ago and my partner was able to repair the damage at no cost.

"But this time they have smashed the window and if we want to repair it's going to cost us more than £200 which we just can't afford. I'm so annoyed about it."

Zo Doyle, committee treasurer, said: "We have got very limited funds here.

"The money we get from fees and grants has to be spent on the essentials such as the hire of the hall and the staff so we try to keep the costs down.

"Any other money we make comes from fundraising, a lot of which is done by ourselves and the community.

"This is £200 which could be spent on books or toys for the children.

"It's so selfish and seems so completely pointless."

The 32-year-old added: "We will have to make a grant application for another shed now.

"We had hoped to be able to get at least another year out of it before we replaced it."

Middlewich CAT team confirmed the incidents took place between September 12 and 26.

Sgt Richard Line said businesses should take measures to ensure their properties are secured and anyone wanting advice can contact Middlewich CAT team by ringing 0845 458 6382.
