HE question of what happens to us when we die is one that arouses much debate and conflict between science and religion but one Northwich psychic does not believe death is the end.

Before my meeting with Jackie Dennison, owner of Feathers Spiritual Centre on Witton Street, I was sceptical that anyone could contact a dead person.

But I was willing to speak to her with an open mind and discuss how she is able to talk with people who are no longer in this world.

Jackie said: "People don't die they just pass over and their spirit lives on.

"I can communicate with them through my spirit guide who acts as a kind of doorkeeper.

"It is a wonderful thing to be able to do this and I feel very lucky to have this ability."

Jackie realised she had the 'gift' at an early age after she saw things that other people could not.

She said: "It was strange for me as a young girl but it soon became clear that I had this ability.

"But being psychic is something that you can learn to do because it is all about tuning in to your feelings so in that respect it was something that I had to develop."

One of the areas in which I was particularly interested to learn more about was the ways in which spirits talk to Jackie.

Do they use words or just convey feelings? Does the medium actually see the dead person or can they just feel their presence?

Jackie said: "You have to open up your mind and interpret the feelings that you get.

"The best way I can describe it is that it is like listening to a radio because it is someone speaking a long way away.

"You can't see this person but you know they are there because you believe it.

"It is the same with a medium because you receive these signals and you just have to believe them and be able to interpret them."

Jackie is now running courses to show people how to open up their minds and learn the skills necessary to become a medium.

Before any reading can begin the psychic must first become 'grounded' and this involves opening up a number of 'chakras' at various points of the body.

She said: "I must be grounded before I start any reading.

"It is like your body growing roots into the ground. I then imagine a ball of light around my forehead which moves down my body.

"Once you have gone through this process then a reading can begin."

Jane Scullion is one of Jackie's 'fledgling' psychics and now works with her at Feathers.

S

he holds sessions in a range of areas including emotional freedom techniques (EMF) and metamorphic techniques.

Much of Jane's work helps people who are still living by dealing with addictions and other illnesses.

She said: "There are a huge number of benefits people get from this and I have seen the results."

Although I was not convinced into believing mediums can contact dead people, after the meeting with Jackie and Jane it became clear that for many people the service they provide can offer a lot of comfort.

ackie said: "I understand that many people will be sceptical and I can see why they would think that.

"But if people don't believe then that is fine because the world is a big enough place for everyone to have their own beliefs whether they are religious or based on science.

"Some people see what we do as evil and wicked, however, and I can't understand why they would think that.

"People come to us and we are able to talk to their loved ones and to me that is an incredible thing."

Jackie believes she has the ability to look into the future but says there are certain things she would not tell someone.

She said: "If I see that person is going to pass over in the near future then there is no way I would tell them that unless I think there is something they could do to prevent it from happening.

"There is a great deal of responsibility that goes with what I do and it is often the case that I have to use my judgement as to what I should and shouldn't tell someone."

Jane will be holding sessions on Tuesdays from November 1 and the centre is now also open on Saturday mornings with no appointment necessary.
