Knutsford Tennis Club is doing its best to find players that can reach Olympic standards.

Governing bodies are advising that to reach the heights sport must be played all year.

The club in Mereheath Lane, Knutsford, will continue senior and junior nights on Tuesdays and Fridays under floodlights this winter.

Match play switches from men's and ladies' doubles to mixed doubles.

In the club tournament coach Paul Burns picked up three trophies, his partner in the mixed, Lorraine Shaw teamed up with Jan Gibson to win the ladies doubles.

Outstanding junior Woody Al-Zidgali also featured in three finals, including partnering his mum Christine, after she had won the ladies singles title.

The trophies for the club junior tournament, which was held in July, were also presented on Saturday by club chairman Steve Mockett.

"The juniors of this club are our future and I am delighted to see that we have so many keen to play tennis," he said. "Long may it continue." Junior under eight winner Lenny Turner has developed a winning streak by taking part in mini tennis sessions.

Junior under 10 winner Andrew Phillips has been a regular at junior club night on Friday evenings.

Anyone interested in joining the club should come down on Tuesdays from 7pm or Fridays from 4.30pm- 6.30pm.
