NOSTALGIC photographs capturing the hustle and bustle of a close knit Widnes community can now be seen all over the world - at the touch of a button.

A new website has been launched to celebrate West Bank Heritage Project.

"Some of the photographs are so striking and stunning, we have shaped the whole website round them," explained project co-ordinator Vanessa Haworth.

"We've already had a fantastic response."

More than 600 people visited the website in the first four days and hundreds more viewed images at an exhibition in St Mary's Church.

"One family came from Gibraltar and another gentleman who lives in Singapore visited the exhibition," said Vanessa.

"A lot of sons and daughters moved to New Zealand or Canada, so we know we have an international audience."

If you recognise anyone on the pictures, you are encouraged to respond.

More than 1,000 photographs have now been donated as this heritage lottery funded project now reaches its final stage.

Two DVDs, one reminiscing about home life and children and the other focussing on work and industry, will be released at a film premier later this year.

An interactive map invites visitors to the website at www.westbankheritage.org.uk to take a look at the changing face of this unique village.
