Twelve local residents, who responded to a call for a town leader, will meet active members of the chamber of trade within a fortnight.
The group hopes to regenerate interest in the town's ailing chamber of trade and prepare a detailed report on how Macclesfield Borough Council could boost the town.
Residents came forward after an appeal in the Guardian by chamber chairman Gordon Haynes.
Applicants include a former national newspaper journalist and a retired Rolls Royce manager.
