BIG-HEARTED teenagers are looking to bring nature alive for blind people with a series of initiatives at a community garden.

Biddulph High School pupils joined forces with Hilda Sheldon from the Biddulph in Bloom group two years ago to create the garden in Brindley Ford.

Now they are hoping to open up the area for the blind and physically handicapped by introducing a number of new features.

Insect-attracting plants and a waterfall are earmarked for the garden to make enable blind people to hear the magical sounds of nature at work.

In addition they are planning to create textured pathways to make the garden more accessible.

The community-minded youngsters need £10,000 to pay for the work, which the county council is seeking from the Government's Single Regeneration scheme to add to £5,000 it has promised.

SRB funding is also being sought by the county for a new £24,000 all-weather sports pitch at Squirrel Hayes First School in Biddulph.

Other Biddulph projects for which SRB money is being sought are a £439,000 initiative to help parents help their children improve their numeracy and reading, and a £446,000 scheme to increase access to information technology.
