A GROUP of Crewe girls will get the star treatment this week, after being picked out as lucky mascots for Morecambe Football Club!

A chance meeting on the M6 motorway between the six girls and the Morecambe team bus lead to an unbeaten run for the Lancashire non leaguers, so they decided the girls must be lucky.

And this week they are treating them to an all expenses paid trip back up the motorway from Crewe to Morecambe in a limousine, to watch the match and hopefully bring them more luck.

One of the girls, Kirsty McFarlane, explained: "We were having a leaving do at work for one of the girls, and decided to have a night out in Manchester.

"So we hired a limousine and set off, but once we got on the motorway we got stuck in a traffic jam for an hour and a half.

"All of us had been living it up, drinking champagne, and this isn't a good idea when you're stuck miles from a toilet!

"We were all getting a bit desperate, and jumped out of the car to look around. The lads on the coach saw our predicament, and let us on. We had a chat and then we left.

"Since then they have never lost a match, and they reckon we must be their lucky mascots!"

The story of the team's heroic rescue was picked up by a National paper, which enabled the girls to get back in touch with the team.

Kirsty added: "We will be watching the game from the director's box. I hope they win, otherwise we could have trouble getting back to Crewe!"
