HUNDREDS of jobs could be created if plans for a multi million pound leisure complex are given the go ahead.

The £15 million complex, earmarked for land at Crewe Green, would include a ten screen cinema, bingo club and restaurants and would create up to 600 full and part time jobs.

But the development company could have a battle on their hands as the land is allocated for employment use, usually offices or light industry, and is technically contrary to planning policy.

The complex would be built on land near the Crewe and Alsager campus of the Manchester Metropolitan University and Springfield School.

Potteries based Trent City Securities has several similar projects in the pipeline for other towns in the country, mainly in the Midlands.

Director Peter Kemp said the firm would be putting £10.5 million into the complex with a further £5 million coming from individual operators.

He added that if they were given the go ahead work could start as early as next Spring as there had already been quite a lot of interest.

"We have 15 acres and would have a ten screen cinema, bingo club and probably a ten pin bowling alley," said Mr Kemp.

"The rest would be made up of four or five restaurants, bars, car parking, access roads and footpaths.

"We would also have a bus shuttle running all day between various places in the borough and the complex.

"The obvious reason for choosing the area is that it is not far away from us, but we also chose Crewe because the town does have a deficit in these type of things at the moment."

He added that the response from Crewe and Nantwich Borough Council so far had been encouraging and he was optimistic about the plans going ahead.
