I WAS disgusted to read the personal attack upon Mr. Colin Parry made by G. P. Davies.

Since the killing of his son, Tim, Mr. Parry has quite rightly endeavoured to ensure that his son's name is kept in the public's conscience. Tim's death demonstrated to us all the futility of terrorism and the indiscriminate way it chooses its victims.

Mr. Parry's attempts, via his various ventures, to create a better understanding and greater tolerance between the people on both side of the Irish Sea, are to be commended, not condemned. His bravery in attempting to help seek peace in Northern Ireland by entering into dialogue with the organisation that killed his son is remarkable. How many of us, if we were in his position, would possess the necessary courage and objectiveness to do that?

Mr. Davies implies that Mr. Parry has used the publicity his son's death has created to promote a television career for himself. What a despicable thing to say. What is apparent about Mr. Parry is that he is an articulate, educated, responsible and objective man. I understand that he is a personnel manager which obviously means that he is a skilled interviewer. He obviously possesses the attributes that would be highly sought after by television companies. His interviewees have all faced personal tragedy, trauma or adversity. There are few people I could think of who would be better qualified to conduct such interviews.

I have to question the motives and rationale behind the thinking of people who criticise rather than support the endeavours of this courageous man. I would like to suggest that G. P. Davies and his/her claimed fellow critics, redirect their energies into more positive, constructive and useful works. L. BUTTERY, Warrington
