WARRINGTON is among local authorities which could benefit from a £500,000 scheme being proposed by MANWEB.

Under the energy efficiency grant scheme, housing providers are asked to submit energy saving projects for their electrically heated properties.

Winning bids will be those which show an outstanding commitment to energy efficiency, in terms of home insulation and heating controls.

Bids can be put in by any providers of housing in the public sector.

The competition is aimed at properties occupied by disabled or older people and those on low incomes and is part of a four year £5.5 million energy saving commitment from MANWEB.

Malcolm Bebbington, MANWEB's energy efficiency manager, said the project would ensure that those who could least afford high fuel bills received the maximum savings.
