I'M pleased this week to be getting more reports on Warrington Anglers' Association fisheries, one especially from the tiny River Bollin.

A member visited this venue on Tuesday and bagged up on small chub, roach and a few dace, all taken on the stick float and white maggot.

The River Dane holds a lot of chub and barbel, you can see them if you look from the high banks in bright, low water conditions. Tony Green visited the fishery when the river was carrying some extra water and netted 15 chub, all like peas in a pod at 3lbs.

A late report from the River Dee at Shocklach (a healthy but worthwhile walk) by Gorden Whalley saw him have a good day's sport catching nine different species during his session. Chub to 1-lb, gudgeon, dace, salmon parr, roach, grayling, minnows and two perch of 2lbs each. We control a vast amount of fishing on this river which I fear is both underrated and underfished. Reports please.

There are a lot of dace and chub showing on the River Ribble with the latter approaching 5lbs. The River Severn at Mytton has produced barbel to 8lbs for our bailiff, Bob Lynes, to ledgered meat. Masses of small chub, dace and odd roach to stick float and maggot.

Four Crosses on the River Vyrnwy is seeing some barbel action with fish this past week to 11-lbs. There don't seem to be any small fish caught, anyone know different? Decent chub to 5lbs also showing along with brown trout around the 1-lb mark.

Right on our doorstep, the Mersey magic continues with members gradually getting around the idea that we have a river that seems to be improving daily in Warrington. One of our committee members, Stan Deakin, came into our HQ full of himself a couple of days ago - yes, he had caught his first Mersey roach.

There will be a lot of you out there who know how he feels, but the majority still have to taste the experience.

If anyone fancies helping out clearing pegs we are meeting tomorrow, 10.30am, on the bank at Victoria Park by the weir and on Sunday, same time, at Paddington Bank. This is part of the Mersey Basin Clean Up Weekend so we would like to show what we can do. Bring a spade or cutters.

Well done to both our intermediate and junior teams who almost took all the honours in the National Junior Anglers Challenge held on the Sankey St. Helens Canal.

The intermediate teams showed their strength when both teams came in first and second, separated by only two points. We also provided the individual winner with Dave Wrightson putting 4-13-0 on the scales. The junior red team were runners-up to Liverpool and District.

Our trout match series at Appleton Reservoir got off to a a slow start with eight anglers taking a total of 14 fish for 22-0-2. Joint winners were Phil Shaw and Nick Donald, each with three fish for 4lbs. Third was Jeff Whittle, two fish for 3-8-0.

Best of luck this next week to our junior team who are on the boat for Ireland tomorrow to take part in the final of the Jack Purchase Holidays Knock-out Final. They are up against Disley and New Mills who won the UK event.

HQ in Parker Street is open as usual tonight 7-9.30pm for new members, subscriptions, or just a chat. I can be contacted with your catch reports on 01928 716238.
