MATCH organiser Ray Boden scored a double header last week by coming first in Tuesday's match on Lymm Dam and Thursday's match on the Sankey Canal.

Ray reported that the tench were in a feeding mood on the Sankey Canal, on pegs 121 to 140, with silver fish slow to feed throughout phase one.

Saturday saw Lymm Angling Club acting as hosts to the NJAA Junior Championship match on phase one of the Sankey Canal. Lymm's junior squad put up a good performance coming 12th. One squad member had to pull out during the match due to feeling unwell.

Congratulations to Warrington Anglers' Association's teams for their successes.

Whitley Pool has again turned up a special fish - this time a ghost carp of 24lb 10oz to member Chris Wray. This, I believe, is the biggest ghost carp ever from a club water.

I remember, not too long ago, these fish being stocked into Whitley Pool at only a few ounces each.

Whitley Pool appears to be a very rich water with fish noticably bigger by the month. Water keepers Jimmy and Alan Ogburn point out that the average size of the rudd caught has gone from 2oz to 3oz over the summer.

On the Old Quay Canal, the ghost carp are performing well. Although not as big as Whitley fish, about a pound each, they are more accommodating to the angler. Ghost carp, silver orfe, small chub and perch are making up decent catches. This venue is well worth a visit.

In order to protect the wildlife the club has again removed line tangled in trees and bushes. Anglers are asked to be mindful of the problem and take steps to prevent line being left on or around waters by taking it home with them.

Sport at New Pool on Lake Lane is currently very good, mainly due to bream. Bailiff, Steve McMurray, reports good catches of skimmers intermixed with bigger bream to 3lb.

Sport at adjacent Spring Pool is still subdued with some signs of improvement, as with most of the smaller pools.

On the trout scene, Bentley Trout Pool's water level remains very low, despite the recent rain. Members are advised to look at the water prior to filling out a ticket due to its reduced size.

However, member Tony Aster reports fantastic sport on this water, catching plenty of well conditioned fish.

Willington Trout Pool is brimming with water and fish. Remember, members can obtain tickets for both the trout pools from the Complete Angler in Gainsborough Road and Utkinton Post Office. They are still priced at £5.50.
