WARRINGTON bobby Andrew Dodd is top of the cops after arresting a record number of villains.

Like the Canadian Mounties, the young constable always gets his man.

And his efforts have been recognised by the county's Chief Constable, who has commended PC Dodd for his exceptional policing skills.

Police chiefs say PC Dodd is the supreme professional and describe him as "courageous, highly motivated, enthusiastic and committed."

The accolades come after the officer, who has spent five years in the force, nabbed 83 offenders within six months. And to prove that a policeman is never off-duty - two arrests were made out of work hours.

But PC Dodd is modest about his success: "It's all down to experience - the more you do, the more your instincts are honed," he said.

"It's about going out there and doing it. It's easy to lock a drunk up, but the hardest part is going off on your own and finding the people who are up to no good.

"I'm interested in getting the baddie - locking up those who prey on others," he added.

PC Dodd has been involved in high profile cases, such as the Latchford double murder, when two friends were shot dead as they sat in a car. He has also worked in CID and been trained to deal with sensitive cases involving child abuse.

But most of all, he prefers to be out on the beat, protecting people from criminals.

"It can be an unrewarding job - you can go out on night patrol, in the rain and the cold and then you have to confront someone on your own. You take them on unarmed, not knowing if they might have a weapon," he said. "Nobody will know what you've had to go through, but there's a sense of job satisfaction in catching them."
