THE Barley Mow should be left as it is. There are plenty of old public houses in Warrington crying out for a change of use.
One place that needs to be open again with a thriving lower Bridge Street now in evidence is the old public house called The Roebuck near the Academy. This could be called anything - most people would love to name a pub. I would call it the Bull and Stirrup because in the 40s cattle were led down lower Bridge Street by farmers and it sounds a great name for a public house.
As for the Flail and Firkin, why not leave the Barley Mow in peace and let the pub stay as it is. Let people power decide its fate.
