EVERYONE was a winner at the GUARDIAN Design An Ad competition prize-giving at the Village Hotel in Warrington - and deservedly so in the opinion of the judges.

More than 20 primary schools accepted our challenge of designing advertisements for a total of 29 companies. It was an extra special night for Stockton Heath Primary School who drew the winning ticket for a multi media Pentium PC worth more than £1,000 donated by Derek Jones of contest co-sponsor ABS and also for Nicky Curry of Bewsey Lodge School whose name was chosen from the hat to win a bicycle donated by Warrington Discount Bikes.

First prize of £50 went to nine-year-old Jack Kenwright of Bradshaw County Primary School for his entry for Storm. Runner-up was Christopher Mercer, also nine and a pupil of Bewsey Lodge. He won £30 for his design for the Cockhedge Centre.

Third place went to nine-year-old Natasha Hawkins of St Anne's Church of England Primary School whose design for Hatter's Row earned her a £20 prize.

Representatives of all the competing primary schools each received certificates and collections of books worth £100 donated by Harper Collins.

The prizes, together with gift vouchers worth £10 for all of the other competitors, were presented by Eric Henshaw, Managing Director of the GUARDIAN. Guests were welcomed by Greg Wallsworth, Series Advertisement Manager.

For some of the competitors there will be more prizes to come. Derek Jones told them that he had been so impressed with their entries he would be using their work in his pre-Christmas advertising in this newspaper and rewarding them with £10 gift vouchers.
