RUNAWAY Warrington Soccer League Premier Division leaders Halebank were surprisingly held to a draw and it allowed the chasing pack to make up ground.

Eagle Sports won 3-2 at Greenall Whitley thanks to John Turner's two strikes and one from Jason Hope.

Daten were 4-1 down with 20 minutes remaining against Halton Borough but they ended up victors 5-4. On target were Neil Matthews, 3, Gary Bennett and Matthew Walker, who got the late winner, with the visitors replying through Kevin Martin 3 and John Martin.

Neil Greenfield was St. Michaels' lone scorer in their 2-1 reverse to Sidac Social.

In Division One, promotion contenders St. Albans had a 5-0 win at Runcorn Albion with goals from Gary Heath, 3, Neil Barker and Derek Peacey.

Sean Cleminson was on target for Grappenhall Sports but they went down 2-1 to Winwick Utd.

Division Two leaders Halfway got back to winning ways, 8-1 at bottom of the table Safeways. A hat-trick here for David Whitfield with others from Phillip Hall, Alan Dorgan, Ian Carswell, John Pearsall and Adam Smith, with a consolation goal from Paul Forbes.

Burtonwood's Stuart Cunliffe struck twice in the 3-1 victory at Irlam Steel.

Spartak are in trouble following their 3-2 loss to Widnes Albion. Geoff Howard and Dave Meir were on target for Mark Leicester's men with the visitors replying through Andy Smith, 2, and Brian Gilinsky.

Matt Cropper hit four and with the Darbyshire brothers also on target, Tony 2, and Gary, it gave Lockers a 7-2 canter over Travellers Rest.

Division Three leaders Orford YC were the highest scorers, winning 12-1 against Penketh Utd. Leading the avalanche was Liam Roache with four, others from Darren Walsh 2, Neil Wightman, Mark Hillen, Dave Clarke, Phil Hazel, Mike Benson and a 25-yard header from Stewart Williamson.

Greenwood OB had a 2-2 draw against Runcorn Villa with Robert Scott and Lee Murphy finding the net.

Dave Pym's 40-yarder, a spot kick plus a Daniel Chadwick effort gave Croft a 3-1 win over Wood Albion.

Dallam Youth Club and Farnworth shared an eight-goal thriller. Gary Green, Carl Daniels, Chris Morris and Andy Powers were on target with the visitors replying through Mark Hopkins, Graham Potter, Kevin Lyons and Peter Ireland.

In the reserve sections, Eagle had a good day. The thirds won 3-1 against Laporte 3rd with efforts from Simon Jones, Andrew Croughan and a beauty from Ian Thomas who ran almost the length of the pitch to score. The fourths won 4-3 against Laporte 4th, their netbusters being Kevin Nicholls, 2, Darren Barber and Mark Stafford.

Barry Smith, Alan McCready and three from Alan Green gave Halton's 3rd a 5-1 win at Lymm Rangers while Halton's fourth were deadlocked 2-2 with St. Michaels 3rd. The home side's scorers were Mark Southern and Ian Griffiths with Anthony Jarras scoring for the visitors.

Lee Stewart was Moore's lone marksman as they lost their unbeaten league record 5-1 at home to Fearnhead.

In section two, a Nicky Malkin double was not enough as St. Albans went down at home to Runcorn Albion.

Grappenhall were indebted to Matt Ralph and Mike Wallis as they overcame St. Michaels, who replied through Stuart Clayton.
