Wirral RUFC 18
Warrington RUFC 5
WARRINGTON came home from unbeaten league leaders Wirral with little reward after a fierce and bruising encounter.
For once, Warrington were unable to dominate the lineouts and were constantly under presure in the scrums. As a result, they were unable to play their free flowing game. Their task was made even harder when centre Woods was dismissed for a late tackle in the 37th minute.
Wirral scored two penalty goals and a try before strong words from captain McLarney saw an inspired performance from the visitors in the second half.
Winger Chadwick nipped over in the corner after a period of strong pressure.
Warrington conceded a penalty which allowed the home side to sweep downfield and score a converted try.
Warrington could not get themselves back into the game and Wirral were comfortable winners in the end.
A penalty count of 25-3 in favour of Wirral meant plenty of work for the players in training this week.
The seconds won their ninth game 12-10. Chris Jackson and a converted Tom Hall try made up the points.
Stephen West had an outstanding game for the thirds who won 24-21. West scored two tries with McDermott's boot doing the rest.
The fourths returned to winning ways with a 30-15 win. Isherwood, Woods and Jones had good games.
The fifths lost 41-0.
