WARRINGTON lost their nerve against Brooklands and were defeated 5-2 in the National Hockey League.

Brooklands took advantage of Warrington's worst opening spell of the season, scoring twice in the first five minutes.

Warrington began to recover and competed well for the rest of the first half, having pulled one back through Dave Dowdall after 10 minutes.

Warrington's midfield came under enormous pressure as both the defence and forwards struggled. Brooklands's Martyn Grimley, a Great Britain Olympic gold medal winner, showed his class and dominated the second half, single handedly opening Warrington up. His teammates fortunately only converted three more of their many chances.

Tim Martin capped another outstanding performance with a consolation goal late in the game but Warrington could only stage a damage limitation exercise.

Having slipped to ninth position in the league it is essential that this week's London trip to play Bromley produces three points.
