A WARRINGTON man has been rewarded for his fight against crime.

John Chadwick received an award for his crime-busting capers, as head organiser of Fox Street Neighbourhood Watch, even after having had a triple heart by-pass.

John was secretly nominated for the Certificate of Commendation by other organisers of the Neighbourhood Watch scheme, which has only been running for the past 16 months

He found out about the award after receiving a surprise letter from the National Neighbourhood Watch Association and travelled to Birmingham, last Saturday, for a ceremony.

And Home Secretary Michael Howard was on hand to congratulate the 58-year-old Fox Street resident.

"It was all been done behind my back but I felt very proud when I found out," said Mr Chadwick. "We have only been going for such a short time but we have done so well in our fight against crime.

"Since we started the crime rate has definitely dropped around here. People were constantly breaking into sheds but since Christmas only two sheds have been targeted."
