Vulcan RUFC 11

Liverpool Collegiate 14

VULCAN started the game well enough with pressure resulting in a penalty which J. Morris converted.

Collegiate scored a somewhat lucky try between the posts but Vulcan rallied and, after a few missed penalty chances, finally broke Liverpool's defence with the best try of the match.

A set move saw Evans and Morris combine to send the supporting Knowlden in to score in the corner.

Another J. Morris penalty made the half-time score 11-7.

Vulcan's usual lapse after half-time continued in this game with the away forwards beating Vulcan in every department. Only good tackling and a few lucky dropped passes kept Collegiate out.

With three minutes remaining, Collegiate's non-stop pressure saw them score a converted try from which Vulcan just could not come back.

At times Vulcan looked a well organised outfit but they can also look a totally different side. With more players turning up for training and more commitment on the day, this game could have been won comfortably.

Best for Vulcan, A. Beckett, M. Duffy and Pearson in the forwards and Ian Hatton was inspirational.

Liverpool Collegiate 10

Vulcan 2nd 48

THIS game was won in awesome style.

Garry Smith, Glen Bell 2, Sam Owen, Rylance, M. Holland and Alex Jones raced in for tries.

In the backs, Jones, Whitney and Smith would grace any top team.

Smith had a stirling game after injury, but this was an all round team performance. Whitney, Eden, Lowe and Griffiths also played their part in a great victory.
