WIDNES VIKINGS come face to face with the Stones First Division surprise packets Whitehaven Warriors on Sunday knowing that a win could move them two places up the league and out of the relegation places.

With Featherstone Rovers, who are one point ahead of Widnes having played a game more, inactive and Hull KR, who have a similar record, visiting bottom club Workington the Vikings could do themselves a big favour.

Whitehaven, who were many people's tip for an immediate return to the second division, currently lie in fourth place with 17 points and completed a 30-8 victory over rivals Workington Town last weekend.

And in Samoan props Siose Muliumu and David Fatiolofa they have two players who are currently attracting attention from the Super League.

Under Aussie coach Stan Martin the Warriors have blossomed and Graeme West's men should not be taking them lightly.

Ian Connor is likely to miss the game after his sending off at Swinton. He appears before the RL disciplinary committee tomorrow (Thursday).

West reported no injuries from Sunday's game, just "injured pride."

Meanwhile the Widnes boss indicated there would be further movement in the transfer market "imminently".

There has been a few enquiries for wantaway star Sean Long and his name is likely to figure in any major deals this week.
