Sandeman is expected to sign for Kettering following a chance conversation between Phil Wilson and Kettering boss Steve Cherry last week.

Manager Phil Wilson said: "Bradley wasn't too happy about not playing regularly and because he didn't figure in my long term plans it seemed the natural solution that he should be allowed to leave the club."

Sandeman's availability was a situation that came up by chance in conversation when Wilson talked to Steve Cherry at Kettering last week whilst gathering information on Rushden.

Chairman Rod Stitch confirmed: "We knew Bradley wasn't happy with the situation of not playing. He came to the ground on Saturday and left as soon as he realised he wasn't playing. It was evident he didn't figure in the manager's plans and it was pointless paying him to be sat around. Phil's conversation with Steve Cherry meant there was an obvious solution."

Sandeman fell victim to Wilson's determination to strengthen up defensively in the weeks leading up to the Chesterfield Cup game.

His lack of defensive grit proved costly, although he had shown in the games he had played for Vics that he was a good attacking full-back.

That was typified in the Farnborough game, where Sandeman played a part in two of Vics' goals but was also caught out of position for two of the visitors' break-away strikes.

Sandeman's departure, however, doesn't appear to mean a new arrival is imminent.

Rod Stitch said: "Phil is always on the look-out for good players but we're being patient. If the right player comes along we'll do everything we can to sign him, but without paying silly money, which we can't afford, there aren't many players around who would improve our squad.

"I know the fans always like to hear about new signings being made, but they have to realise it's a pain-staking task finding the right player at the right price."

Phil Wilson also confirmed the club is still monitoring the situation with Chris Price.

He said: "Chris is a player we're keeping an eye on, but his injury isn't showing any signs of healing just yet."

It is the ligament injury which Price sustained whilst training with Swindon that has put the move on ice. In the meantime Stitch sees the extension of the loan deal for Jamie Collins as a possibility.

He said: "Jamie has been playing well and we could well have the option of extending his loan deal, it is something we will look at if we need to."

Following Saturday's game with Rushden though the immediate need seems to be a striker with pace.

When Carroll replaced Cooke early in the first half it was a case of replacing like with like. Combined with Williams, the pace of Vics' three main strikers is a problem.

Although they are all high quality players and good finishers, they were found wanting in the physical battle with Rushden when an injection of pace was vitally needed.

Wilson said: "I know we don't have an out and out striker who is very quick but I don't see it as a problem. Against Rushden we faced one of the strongest teams in the league and my players performed admirably, although Rushden's fitness did tell in the closing stages. The strike-force proved against Welling what it can do.

"Rushden are just a very strong team and they caught us on a day when the defence wasn't 100 per cent."
