Rose Bridge 26 West Bank 4

THE BANK went behind after only eight minutes when second row Jukes put stand-off S Cassidy over and winger Stonily converted. Two minutes later after a good play from loose forward Ray Attwood, stand off Ian Connor and centre Tony Fillingham, winger Duncan Curphy beat his opposing winger, chipped over the full back and collected the ball to score a superb 40 yard try.

The Wiganers increased the lead with a penalty from Stanley after a Bank high tackle. Just before half-time good handling from a scrum by the Bridge backs resulted in a try to winger Moran.

The Bank started the second half in determined mood but continued to lose the ball early. Full back Derbyshire, prop Shepherd and second row Bentham added tries. Centre Tony Fillingham was adjudged mom.

Rose Bridge's victory was deserved but the Bank second team were awarded the game after a last minute phone call saying that the opposition could not raise a team. The Alliance league remains a major problem for it's administrators.

Widnes Inter-league progress: Following BARLA'S decision to cancel the Inter-League competition the Lancashire County Association decided to run a competition itself for West of the Pennines towns. The Widnes side were scheduled to play at Oldham but Oldham were unable to raise a side. Widnes now progress to a semi-final tie against St Helens on Tuesday, September 29th at Blackbrook. Kick-off is 7.30pm.

The Lancashire selectors will be out in force at the game and are looking to add players to their provisional squad for their game with the British Police. The selectors have already invited Farnworth's Dougie Davies, St Maries Mike Bowden, Eddie Connor and Tony Hollins, and Simms Cross prop Peter Grady to join the squad.
