PROFESSOR David Norman, director of synchrotron at Daresbury Laboratory, Warrington, has been appointed as acting chairman of English Nature.
The organisation provides advice to the government on nature conservation and heritage.
David is taking part time leave of absence, three days a week, from the laboratory.
He was invited to take the post by Michael Meacher, minister for the environment.
David has a special interest in migratory species and birds of conservation concern.
He is chairman of the Merseyside Bird Ringing Group.
