SCHOOL children could be in danger from the traffic on Grange Lane according to Verdin High School's headteacher.
Neil Dyment wants to see improved safety after a schoolgirl was hit by a car two weeks ago and was lucky not to be seriously injured.
The sheer volume of traffic travelling at peak times is proving difficult for children dodging in and out of cars to get across the road.
But Mr Dyment said the congestion causes cars to slow down and that may have saved the youngster.
He said: "The girl was actually knocked into the air, but thankfully the car was not going too fast."
He added: "I am appealing for some traffic safety measures or a form of warning indication system to help the children get across the road safely.
"There are around 1,000 children all leaving at the same time and that can cause some considerable problems because they need to cross the road.
"My fears are for the safety of the children and I am working with local councillors to try and make the situation safer."
