PROUD and tall they stood silently - to remember those who did not return from war.
Young and old stood side by side on an overcast Sunday morning as the Remembrance Service was held and the Last Post was played.
At Winsford the parade assembled on the drive to Wyvern House and proceeded to Fountain Court.
At the War Memorial a large crowd gathered for the service, which was taken by Father Peter Montgomery.
The hymn Abide with Me was followed by a lesson. The Exhortation was read by Alec Bayliss, president of the Winsford Branch of the Royal British Legion.
The Last Post was then played and followed by the two minute silence.
Winsford Town Mayor, Clr Jim Hughes, placed a wreath on the War Memorial on behalf of HM The Queen, and he was followed by Vale Royal deputy mayor, Clr Nick Harris.
Other organisations which laid wreaths included:
The Royal British Legion, Burma Star Association, Cheshire Regiment, Winsford Town Council, Rotary and Inner Wheel, the Winsford branch of the Vale Royal Pensioners' Association and the police, fire brigade and ambulance services.
