PUZZLED police in Warrington are reflecting on a tricky problem how to trace the owner of an ornate mirror which has come into their possession.
The mirror was among a batch of property recovered by Warrington detectives, and they are anxious to return it to its rightful owner.
Officers took the mirror to the town's museum to have the ornament valued, and staff there advised them to hunt down the owner.
Tracking down criminals isn't normally a problem for the town's bobbies, but tracing a victim is proving to be a bit more perplexing.
Det Con Michelle Armitt, of Warrington CID, said: "We are desparate to find its owner.
"It's a large ornate mirror and the detail is very intricate, we are hoping someone will recognise it straight away."
Police believe the mirror could be a family heirloom and have great sentimental value. Anyone who recognises the mirror or who knows the owner can contact police on 652222.
