HUNDREDS of residents in Thelwall and Grappenhall packed St Wilfrid's Church to the rafters to remember the men who died in the two World Wars on Sunday.

Residents young and old from both villages congregated at the British Legion on Stockport Road to lead the procession to the church on Sunday morning, then had a right good knees up at the legion after the service.

Youngsters from the Warrington Junior Pipe Band led the way, followed by Guides, Brownies, Cubs and Scouts and youngsters and their parents from both villages, under the watchful eye of parade marshal Ronnie Smith.

Ronnie, a former sergeant major, who has organised the parade for the past 30 years said this year's event was the best yet.

"There were more kids this time than ever. It was brilliant," said Ronnie.

"Most of the old ones are disappearing now and it's excellent to see the young ones out.

"The church was packed to the rafters, they must have been sitting on the roof. The young ones led the procession then we all went for a good old knees up in the legion."
